The G2M Fiber Penetrator is used in various industries, including subsea, electronics, aerospace, automotive, and for medical devices. This is a specialized type of seal that joins glass and metal together for a waterproof and pressure-tight barrier.

ELFOs workshop in Kongsberg is located in the same building as our main organization. The facilities are set up to handle production and Factory Acceptance Testing of electrical and optical products. With high quality tools and workstations we are set up for manufacturing of small components to mid-size structures and assemblies. Welded structures and machined parts are produced in close co-operation with our sub-suppliers and assembled in our workshop. Leak testing, nitrogen filling or oil filling is done inhouse.

Technical Description

ELFO production facilities are divided in zones for lean production. Starting with picking parts from store and PMI testing, electrical and optical assembly and termination work, mechanical assembly, leak testing, flushing and filling of nitrogen in 1ATM canister or oil filling for PBOF assemblies. Before delivery a Factory Acceptance test including hyperbaric testing and ESS are performed where required.

ELFO want to be a flexible partner with quick turn around for modifications or upgrades of your equipment. If you need changes to electrical or optical interfaces, changes in lengths or configurations, we can disassemble your cables, jumpers or other assemblies and re-build to your needs.

All upgrades and modifications will be designed in accordance with your needs. Drawings and procedures will be made in close co-operation with you and reviewed and approved before work. Full traceability to changes and new materials will be maintained in the delivery documentation.

Design verification and qualification

ELFO do full scale prototyping of internal development projects and EPC projects. With equipment in-house we can produce parts and mock-ups for concept evaluations and verifications. After final design freeze and release of manufacturing documentation a full scale prototype is qualified in accordance to product or project defined qualification program.

Technical Description

Design verification and qualification is defined based on your specifications and international standards. For variants of existing field proven design, we can run standard qualification programs. For new and unproven design, we perform technical maturity assessments with analysis of technology readiness level and technical risk categorization. All qualification programs are tailored for each application in accordance with API and recommended practices.

ELFO service technicians and engineers are available for assisting with various work at your site. We have great experience in installing optical and electrical jumpers, sensor harnesses and parking connectors into subsea structures. Termination and testing of umbilical cables can be arranged based on your specific requirements. We can assist in inspections, trouble shooting and repairs of equipment.

Technical Description

For additional protection of jumpers we can add spiral guards onto jumpers before installation and testing. For jumpers installed for ROV operation we can assist in ROV pull out testing on site.
We have calibrated equipment for continuity resistance, insulation resistance, optical powermeters, OTDRs etc for verification of equipment after installation.

All work and testing is documented in site reports.

Repair and refurbishment

ELFO provide repair and refurbishment services for your equipment. For equipment stored over long periods or retrieved equipment we can assist in inspections and advice on services required. The work can be done at your site, or the equipment can be sent for inspection and further work in our workshop in Kongsberg.

Technical Description

First step is always a thoroughly visual inspection and test of the equipment. Based on the result we will provide you a detailed description of the recommended work, cost and schedule.

Typically, this can span form cleaning and re-doing FAT test, to replacement of wires/fibers, bootseals, o-rings, hoses etc.

All work, replacement of materials and testing is documented in refurb reports.

OCT

Optical Cable Termination (OCT)

ELFO Optical Cable Termination function as a splice box unit in between umbilical fiber optical cable(s) and Fiber optical wet-mate connector(s). The OCT is installed to the umbilical cable before deployment and is mechanically secured to the cable armoring and seals the optical fiber cables elements. Multiple configurations for termination to various cables and optical fibers can be delivered based on existing design. The product can be delivered with one to multiple connectors.

Optical Cable Termination (OCT)

ELFO jumper system for optical and electrical distribution of power and communication subsea. Multiple configurations for connections to various connectors, instruments and equipment. System is based on field proven technology with dual barriers to seawater, and is seen as the industry standard for Subsea distribution products all over the world.

Technical Description

The ELFO OCT is based on a modular design divided in 2 main subassemblies.
The 1 atmospheric pressure compartment and the oil filled pressure balanced compartment.

As a barrier between those compartments ELFO Fiber penetrator(s) are located to separate the two different environments.

1 atmospheric compartment
This compartment consist of OCT cable inlet including components for strain relief and sealing elements to the cable, Fiber management tray for coiling overlength of fiber from the cable and penetrator(s) and hoisting fusion splices (single or ribbon) performed to connect fibers from the cable to the penetrator(s).

Oil filled compartment
The oil filled compartment is the volume inbetween the presurized side of the fiber penetrator and the fiber optical connector(s). The fiber connectors are normally connected to the OCT by a hose. In this compartment would it also be fiber management tray for coiling overlength of fiber from the penetrator(s) and fiber connector(s) and hoisting fusion splices (single or ribbon) performed to connect fibers from the the penetrator(s) to the fiber connectors.

All components are produced in high quality materials with full traceability to certificates. Before start of production a cable verification test will be performed to verify all interfaces to the umbilical cable. As standard this includes testing of tension and torque forces the product is designed to withstand. All sealing barriers are leak tested and hyperbaric testing is performed to design pressure x safety factor. Optical performance shall be verified before and after testing.

During production and commissioning all sealing interfaces will be leak tested. Before installation all fiber terminations will be tested in accordance to your specific requirements.
